Do private detectives know computer reconnaissance?

  • Computer forensics investigators(私家偵探 ) specialize in recovering, analyzing, and presenting data from computers for use in investigations or as evidence. They determine details of intrusions into computer systems, recover data from encrypted or deleted files, and recover emails and deleted passwords.

Legal investigators assist in preparing criminal defenses, finding witnesses, serving legal documents, interviewing police officers and potential witnesses, and collecting and reviewing evidence. Legal investigators can also gather information about parties to a lawsuit, take pictures, testify in court, and gather evidence and reports for the trial. They often work for law firms or attorneys.

Corporate investigators (私家偵探 )conduct internal and external investigations for companies. In internal investigations, they may investigate workplace drug use, ensure expense accounts are not being misused, or determine if employees are stealing assets, goods or information. External investigations attempt to stop criminal schemes from outside the company, such as fraudulent billing by suppliers. Investigators could spend months posing as company employees to uncover wrongdoing.

Financial investigators may be hired to develop confidential financial files of individuals or companies that are potential parties to large financial transactions. These investigators are usually certified public accountants (CPAs) who work closely with investment bankers and other accountants. They may also seek assets to recover damages awarded by the court in fraud or theft cases.

Detectives working for retail stores or hotels are responsible for containing damage and protecting assets. Store detectives, also known as loss prevention agents, protect retail store assets by apprehending anyone who attempts to steal merchandise or damage store property. They prevent theft by shoplifters, supplier representatives, delivery personnel and store employees. Store detectives also regularly inspect stock areas, locker rooms and lounges, and sometimes assist with store openings and closings. They can prepare loss prevention and safety reports for management and testify in court against those they arrest. Hotel detectives protect hotel guests from theft and maintain order in hotel restaurants and bars. They may also keep unwanted people out, such as known thieves.
